We have learned a lot since the first lockdown measures that forced us to close our offices, force our staff to work from home, eliminate travel and move all our machinery buying and selling operations 100% online.
If we had been told that this was possible 12 months ago, and that we were going to do it so quickly and so well, we would never have believed it. Yet, since March our staff has been working 100% virtually and except for a couple of operations, machinery purchases and sales have been made without the need to travel for neither MachinePoint nor the buyers.
Disassembly, packaging and loading of the equipment has been developed by the network of local technicians that MachinePoint has been working with for many years, so no have been stopped despite various measures of lockdown and border closures.
Travel savings have not only been in time and money as we have avoided the 700 or so trips that MachinePoint makes on average each year. Add to that another 700 trips, many of them long-distance, that buyers have to make to see the machinery, transfers to the office, car trips etc. That said, not only time and money but also CO2 savings. So if there is one thing we can get out of these months of limited mobility it is that a reduction in CO2 we have achieved will go to helping the environment. We know buyers prefer to physically inspect used equipment prior to purchase rather than using video conferencing, we want to thank both buyers and sellers for the trust they have placed in MachinePoint and who have made it possible for used machinery purchase and sale transactions to continue to take place.
When needed, MachinePoint can also offer machinery appraisals working with reputable local technicians, helping buyers make more informed decisions. The disassembly and packaging process is followed virtually by MachinePoint professionals and a final report is provided to the buyer when the operation is completed.
