A CIP (Clean in Place) and SIP (Sterilize in Place) system is a system designed to clean and sterilise processing equipment for any type of beverage. The CIP system uses nitric acid, caustic soda to disinfect surfaces of the various line components, while the SIP system relies on the application of steam or heat to achieve sterilisation. These systems can be automated to perform the cleaning and sterilisation tasks without human intervention, which is useful due to the hygienic nature required in dairy processing. These systems can also include an automated rinse cycle to ensure complete removal of product or other residues. The main brands are ICE and APV.
